Hazlet was founded in 1928, after the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived, and became an incorporated village on January 1, 1963. It sits northwest of Swift Current near the Great Sand Hills, in the Rural Municipality of Pittville No. 169. Agriculture, cattle and bison ranching, and oil and natural gas have long driven the local economy.
